Fenestraria rhopalophylla

Photo taken on Oct 24, 2014

Latin name Fenestraria derived from Latin fenestris — window. In native habitat they grow almost completely buried in sand to avoid heat. The only part of the plant above the ground are semi-transparent tips of the leaves — “windows”. They allow filtered sunlight into the deeper parts of the leaves containing chlorophyll.

Similar to Titanopsis, the window plant blooms in winter. I have this plant for less than half a year, thus it's too early to boast with it, just showing :). The diameter of the “bush” is ~5-6 cm.
