Queen Anne's lace —

The name of the genus both in English (chervil) and in Latin (Anthriscus) was given by another plant from this genus — Anthriscus cerefolium, used since Ancient time for food seasoning.

English chervil derived from Latin chaerephyllum, which is from Greek khairephyllon = khairein “to delight, rejoice” + phyllon “leaf”, referring to the pleasant aroma of the leaves (source1, source2).

Latin Anthriscus is the Old Greek name of the plant; according to most sources it's etymology was lost, but one Russian book supposes that it is from anthos “flowers” + thrigkos “fence”, as the plant often grows along fences. For me, Anthriscus sounds as “flower-risk”, as it's edible, but can be confused with other plants of the family — looking similar and poisonous.

Latin sylvestris means growing in forest: books and -pedias attribute the plant to forest openings and fringes. Well, then, I believe, we have really wide forest fringes.

One of common names Queen Anne`s lace — reflects the delicate beauty of the flowers, as Queen Anne was legendary expert in lace making (there are versions that she was either English or Danish Queen). Still, this name is also used for some other plants of parsley family, usually for wild carrots.
