<div class=ru><p>07.08.2011: Либо я этого не знала, либо хорошо забыла: на этой фотке я обнаружила, что у осы помимо больших фасеточных глаз есть ещё 3 простых глазка на макушке. И у мух тоже. Кроме того, пишут, что такие глазки есть у стрекоз и кузнечиков, но на фотках я их пока не нашла.</p><p>Все источники говорят, что эти глазки слишком плохо сфокусированы, чтобы различать предметы, но зато они очень хорошо воспринимают изменения освещённости, у них широкое поле зрения и быстрая реакция. Было установлено, что насекомые используют их в полёте для корректировки положения тела  (относительно горизонта), а также для реагирования на изменения освещённости. В связи с этим простые глазки насекомых заинтересовали разработчиков небольших беспилотных летательных аппаратов — им тоже нужно решать задачу стабилизации полёта. </p><p>Есть также предположения, что простые глаза помогают видеть поляризованный свет, корректировать циркадные ритмы в связи с изменениями освещённости и проч.</p><p>Фото Андрея Катровского</p><p><span class=ubcl>оса обыкновенная Vespula vulgaris либо оса германская Vespula germanica, род Vespula</span></p></div><div class=en><p>Aug 07, 2011: Either I didn't know or I forgot that: on this photo I found that the wasp has three additional eyes on top of her head besides the big complex eyes. And after that we found such eyes on flies' heads, too. Different sources also indicate that dragonflies and grasshoppers have such eyes, but I couldn't see them on any photos I have.</p><p>It's told that these small eyes - ocelli (single form - ocellus) - cannot perceive form of objects. Instead, they are good at light measuring and have faster reaction to changes and wide field of view. <a target=_blank href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stemmata>One common theory of ocellar function in flying insects holds that they are used to assist in maintaining flight stability. ... the ocelli are superbly adapted for measuring changes in the perceived brightness of the external world as an insect rolls or pitches around its body axis during flight. … Other theories of ocellar function have ranged from roles as light adaptors or global excitatory organs, polarization sensors, and circadian entrainers. … Research on the ocelli is of high interest to designers of small unmanned aerial vehicles.
